Monica Oguttu

Board Chair

Dr. Monica Oguttu is a visionary leader in maternal and reproductive health, with more than 25 years of experience driving innovative, community-centered programs in Kenya. She is the Founder and Executive Director of KMET, established in 1996, which she has successfully scaled to 42 of Kenya’s 47 counties, building a network of over 350 health providers and pharmacists to expand access to quality maternal and adolescent sexual reproductive health services in rural communities.

A registered Nurse and Midwife with a PhD in Public Health from the University of Central England, Monica previously managed a busy maternity unit at Kenyatta National Hospital and served as an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Nairobi. She is renowned for fostering collaboration across government, private sector, and communities to improve health outcomes, with a focus on reproductive health innovations, education, advocacy, and community engagement.

Monica’s work has earned her numerous international and national awards, including the Margaret Sanger Award (Planned Parenthood, 2004 & 2006), the Joan B. Dunlop Award (IWHC, 2018), and a Lifetime Achievement Award from Kenya Quality Health Care (2024). She has also served on global boards and advisory committees, including WHO’s Task Shifting & Sharing Taskforce, Ipas, and Duke University’s Saving Lives at Birth Advisory Board.

Her leadership continues to inspire the next generation of health innovators, ensuring women and girls across Kenya have access to safe, high-quality reproductive healthcare.
